1. Microbial biomass index of activated sludge in mixed liquor
There are two main ways to display the microbial biomass index in the activated sludge mixture. One is the mixed liquid suspended solids concentration (MLSS) and the other is the mixed liquid volatile suspended solids concentration (MLVSS).
Briefly, MLSS refers to the mixed liquor sludge concentration, which is the total weight of activated sludge solids contained in the aerated tank unit volume mixture. MLSS is used to express some errors in the activated sludge microbial biomass. However, MLSS is easy to measure and is therefore more commonly used.
MLVSS refers to the concentration of organic solid matter in the mixed liquor activated sludge, and MLVSS can accurately represent the number of microorganisms. Both MLSS and MLVSS are relative indicators indicating the amount of microorganisms in activated sludge. MLVSS/MLSS is relatively fixed. For domestic sewage, the value is around 0.75.
The above two indicators, in our debugging process, need to know more complicated experimental conditions, so they are generally used in medium and large-scale sewage treatment projects, but we still need to know what they mean.
Second, the indicator of the sedimentation performance of activated sludge
The sedimentation performance index of activated sludge mainly has two modes of manifestation, one is sludge settling ratio (SV) and the other is sludge volume index (SVI).
Sludge sedimentation ratio (SV), also known as 30min precipitation rate. It refers to the volume ratio of the precipitated sludge formed by the mixture to the original mixture after standing for 30 minutes in the measuring cylinder, expressed in %.
This is a common value in our actual equipment commissioning and utilization, and it is also a simple reaction to the state of sludge growth. Generally, a 1000ML measuring cylinder is selected to measure more accurately, and it is faster to judge the sedimentation speed, sedimentation ratio, sludge status, etc. The successful cultivation of activated sludge.
The sludge sedimentation ratio (SV) can basically reflect the amount of activated sludge in the normal operation aeration tank, which can be used to control and adjust the discharge of excess sludge, and it can also find abnormal phenomena such as sludge expansion in time. The treatment of domestic sewage generally controls the SV between 20% and 30%.
The sludge volume index (SVI) is simply referred to as the sludge index. It refers to the volume occupied by the precipitated sludge formed by 1g of dry sludge after the mixture at the outlet of the aeration tank has been allowed to settle for 30 minutes, in mL. Compared with SV, SVI reflects the sedimentation performance of sludge, and its value is too low, indicating that the activated sludge has many inorganic components and the mud is fine and compact. Too high indicates that the sludge settling performance is not good. The SVI value of domestic sewage treatment is between 50 and 150.
